Fiestas in Alcossebre and Alcalà de Xivert, month by month

Kalymnos on InstagramKalymnos on Facebook

The main fiestas in Alcossebre and Alcalà de Xivert are the patron saint fiestas in honour of St John the Baptist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus: they're held in late August in Alcalà and in early September in Alcossebre. The rest of the year brings Sant Antoni (January), Carnival (February), Easter (March-April) and St John's Eve (June). Exact dates change every year and are announced by the town council.

Fiestas in Alcossebre are shared between the two parts of the municipality: Alcalà de Xivert, the inland village, and Alcossebre, its seaside resort. The biggest are the patron saint fiestas, between late August and early September, but there's something to celebrate almost every month. This guide tells you when each one falls so you can plan your trip to Alcossebre, Spain; the town council publishes the programme with days and times every year.

Patron saint fiestas of St John the Baptist and the Sacred Heart

The patron saint fiestas are the most important in the municipality and take place in two stages: first in Alcalà de Xivert, in late August, then in Alcossebre, in early September. They're dedicated to St John the Baptist (Sant Joan Baptista), to whom Alcalà's parish church is dedicated, and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

As a guide, in 2026 they ran from 21 to 31 August in Alcalà and from 2 to 6 September in Alcossebre, with a group of "festeres" (eleven adults and four children) representing the fiestas. Every year the council presents the programme, with each day's events, a few weeks beforehand.

For a group of friends, this is the best time to come if you want a lively atmosphere: the end of summer, a town still full of holidaymakers and Kalymnos in season. Book your accommodation early; there are options within walking distance of the club in where to stay near Kalymnos.

St John's Eve in June

St John's Eve (Nit de Sant Joan), the night of 23 to 24 June, opens the summer in Alcossebre: the council uses it to launch its summer programme, with events in Alcossebre. Sant Benet is also celebrated in June. If you plan to spend the night on the beach, check the council's rules on bonfires and beach use first, as they can change every year.

Summer fiestas: Capicorb and concerts

In July, Capicorb, on the municipality's coast, holds its Sant Antoni fiestas, and over the summer the council organises concerts and open-air events in Alcalà and Alcossebre; the programme changes every year.

Are there Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) in Alcossebre? No: the official calendar of traditional fiestas in Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre doesn't include them. The big summer fiestas are the patron saint fiestas.

  1. Easter: the first big weekend of the year.
  2. Summer: from St John's Eve to the patron saint fiestas in September.
  3. New Year's Eve: end-of-year party at Kalymnos.

The rest of the year Alcossebre is a quiet town. To plan your night (a stroll, dinner by the sea and a party), see things to do in Alcossebre at night.

Where to find the official fiesta programme
